Receiving the Ray Collins Award For Customer Excellence 2021 (from left to right): Lynda Stevens (Winner), Michelle McConnell, Garry Owens and Alan Davies (nominees)

Patient moving and handling specialists Care & Independence recently rewarded long-standing employees of the company at a corporate celebration event.

Staff from across manufacturing sites and field/home-based staff joined together for an evening of recognition and reward with 25 members of staff  celebrated for their length of continuous service ranging from five to 30 years.

Amongst those to be honoured were longest-standing member of staff Bathing Production Workshop Supervisor Steve Edwards for 30 years’ service and production colleagues, Garry Owens and Wayne Lee, with 25 year anniversaries each.

The unsung hero award went to Marjorie White, Care & Independence’s sling designer extraordinaire, whom has been instrumental in creating some of the company’s most innovative designs such as the recent Glove Diamond Deluxe sling family. This was also especially poignant as Marjorie is due to retire from the business later in the year.

The company event also saw the second presentation of the Ray Collins Award for Customer Excellence, created in memory of a colleague lost to early Covid.

The 2021 winner was Sling Production Assistant Lynda Stevens who was highly praised for her outstanding dedication to improving the lives of hundreds of individuals throughout the past year.

Managing Director Ian Jones declared the event a “great success” and impressed upon attendees the importance of community and continued support and caring towards one another for the greater good.

He said he was humbled by the astonishing amount of experience and knowledge present in the room and praised the way in which every member of staff had gone the extra mile over the past year.

These were, he said, “demonstrative and worthy values that resonate at the heart of the company itself and all staff should be proud of their individual achievements and contributions”.

Headquartered in Bicester, Care and Independence are a Class-1 medical devices British manufacturer and supplier of specialist moving and handling equipment.
