Acorn Trusk in the HighlandsYorkshire-based mobility giant Acorn Stairlifts is continuing to extend its global reach, with almost three-quarters of its annual turnover now generated by export sales.

Newly-published results from Acorn show an annual turnover of £245.4 million, up by £8.8 million on the previous year’s trading. They also show the portion of that turnover generated by overseas business has risen to 72.5 per cent, up from 66.8 per cent the previous year.

Founded in Bradford in 1992, Acorn builds all of its stairlifts in the UK, at two factories in West Yorkshire and another in Scotland. From there they are exported to more than 80 countries worldwide, with Acorn operating wholly-owned subsidiaries in the USA and Canada, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The latest results – covering the year ended September 30th 2022 – show Acorn continuing to recover strongly from the Covid-19 pandemic, with profit after tax reaching £50.1 million, up from £47.9 million the previous year.

Going forward, Acorn is stating that it will continue to invest all aspects of its global business, including research and development to continually evolve and improve its home stairlifts and implementing new technologies in its manufacturing processes.

The manufacturer also claims to be actively promoting its stairlifts to existing and emerging geographic markets and looking to strengthen and expand its global distribution network.

Commenting on the latest results, Acorn’s Group Finance Director Joanne Richardson said: “The 2022 financial year has been another successful one and it’s gratifying to witness Acorn’s group strategy translate into continued growth as a global business.

“All new and existing Acorn employees are trained in the five core values which underpin our business; Quality, Unity, Integrity, Caring and Ambition. As we continue to grow worldwide, Unity – working together as one team – has become increasingly important. We actively promote collaboration between company departments and global subsidiaries to ensure continued success.”

In May 2023, Acorn Stairlifts announced that its first fully electric-powered van was in operation in the Isle of Man, with plans to switch more of its delivery and service vans to create an ‘all green’ fleet.
