system visual wheelAIR feature

At the opening day of Rehacare, Glasgow-based mobility company WheelAIR launched the next generation of its unique wheelchair cooling system, extending the system to be incorporated with a range of seating options.

Using feedback from WheelAir users, manufacturers, and healthcare professionals, the company says has made changes to the WheelAir system to have an even more significant impact against the issues of overheating and over sweating.

The WheelAir integrates into wheelchair seating systems and gently blows the air onto the users back, lowering the relative humidity to accelerate the sweating process and keep clothing dry, and reduces back – and body – temperature.

According to WheelAIR, V2 is about giving the user more choice with more fan speeds, choice of seating system, a new wireless remote, and 24-hour battery life. In addition, the new system offers integrations for powerchairs, custom moulded seating, rigid backs and sling back wheelchairs.

Founded in 2016 by entrepreneur Corien Staels, WheelAIR was the first temperature control system designed specifically for wheelchairs, boasting cooling technology that helps reduce overheating and over sweating.

First becoming aware of the temperature regulation and microclimate management problems experienced by wheelchair users whilst writing her undergraduate dissertation, Corien decided to continue her cooling system idea after her studies. She discussed more of her journey as a newcomer to the world of mobility in her ‘More about…’ feature with THIIS.

“Our original WheelAir was a game-changer and had a positive impact on the lives of many users,” commented Corien.

“This new generation of WheelAir was developed from the feedback we have received from healthcare professionals and WheelAir users. The team wanted to give the user even more cooling options, more control, and more flexibility to use WheelAir. We are incredibly excited to be launching this new generation WheelAir.”

More information about features and system options relating to the new product are available from WheelAIR’s new website and the company has confirmed it is accepting pre-orders for the wheelAIR V2 now and will ship on the 1st November 2019.
