Upper limb prosthetic supplier and assistive technology specialist Steeper Group has announced a new exclusive distribution agreement with US-based Naked Prosthetics, bringing its unique body-driven digit prostheses to the UK.

Steeper will add three Naked Prosthetics devices to its offer, with the unique range of finger prosthetics designed to mimic natural digital and hand motions.

Aimed at those who have suffered finger loss either through amputation or congenital condition, the three devices available are the PIPDriver, the MCPDriver and the ThumbDriver.

According to the company, each Naked Prosthetics device has been created to work independently or with one another in a complementary capacity to restore length, dexterity and overall hand health to the user.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this innovative range of prostheses to the UK. It´s a much-anticipated launch, and with our expertise in the upper limb market we are the ideal partner for Naked Prosthetics,” commented Carl Chatfield, Product Director for Steeper Group.

“We are aware that digit loss can be just as debilitating for the patient as some higher levels of amputation; and these devices allow patients the opportunity to return to activities of daily living, as well as improving the health of their overall hand.”

Enabling users to perform manual tasks previously not thought not possible, the devices are heat resistant up to 175 degrees and resistant to oil, water, dust and dirt.

The prostheses function by utilising the remainder of the amputee’s digit to power the device, with the exoskeletal mechanics optimising range of motion and strength whilst protecting the hypersensitive amputation site to ensure there is no contact between the residuum and the device.

This works together to allow for reliable object handling and manipulation, enabling the user to carry out tasks from carrying large heavy bags to actions requiring fine grip and dexterity such as picking up a pound coin.
