Seating supplier LCS announces that it has acquired Scottish start-up WheelAir
Irish custom-made seating supplier LCS has announced the acquisition of WheelAir, a Scottish start-up which devised an active airflow system to assist wheelchair users with heat and moisture control.
The system can be adapted to suit all models of wheelchair seating, including custom moulded seating.
WheelAir will operate as a subsidiary of LCS, maintaining its brand, with its brand produced and distributed by LCS.
Luke Conway, Director of Sligo-based LCS, stated: “LCS have been integrating the WheelAir Care system into our custom moulded seating for several years and customer feedback has always been excellent.
“Microclimate control is essential to skincare management, this product reduces temperature and humidity for the end user.”
Corien Staels, who founded WheelAir in 2016 in Glasgow, remains involved with the brand as an advisor under LCS and will continue to work with existing and new customers, as well as freelancing for other firms.
Before closing for business at the end of 2022, WheelAir enjoyed much success, bolstering its team with clinical expertise, expanding its product range with new models, as well as establishing a wholly-owned subsidiary in Holland in February 2020.
Corien Staels stated that she was happy that the product would be available again, commenting: “I truly look forward to seeing this next chapter of WheelAir, and to see the product reach its full potential (and beyond) while it continues to change wheelchair users’ lives.
“[It is] a cause that has been so close to my heart, having put all my commitment, time and energy towards, and one I remain very passionate about. It would not have been possible without so much support received over the years.”
LCS offers a wide range of seating solutions including its own custom-made seating and a broad selection of accessories for the wheelchair user.
The firm states that will be working with seating providers, distributers and original equipment manufacturers to enhance WheelAir’s competitiveness and innovation.
