Revolve Air wheelchair selected as one of the TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions 2021
The Revolve Air wheelchair has been selected as one of TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions 2021, an annual list recognising 100 groundbreaking inventions that are making the world better and smarter.
The magazine, which recognised Revolve Air in the Accessibility category, credited former Ferrari designer Andrea Mocellin with applying his skills in creating, what it says, is the world’s first active wheelchair that fits the standards of a universal cabin luggage size restriction.
The Revolve Air’s hexagonally structured, puncture-proof wheels fold up, allowing the chair to take up 60 per cent less space than a standard folding wheelchair, so it fits in an airplane’s overhead compartment.
According to TIME, Mocellin’s next “speed challenge” is getting the Revolve Air out by mid-2022 to the nearly 12,000 customers on his waiting list.

The Revolve Air was unveiled earlier this year following three years of development by Andrea Mocellin as an independent project.
On March 25, 2021 Revolve Wheel partnered with DEXET Technologies to transfer the first functional prototypes to a production-ready product. Specialising in mechanical engineering, DEXET Technologies focus mainly on FormulaOne and high-performance automotive projects.
The award recognition comes after another innovation aiming to revolutionise air travel made headlines recently. PriestmanGoode unveiled Air 4 All, a system that enables powered wheelchair users to remain in their own wheelchair for the entire journey.
The firm partnered with SWS Certification and Flying Disabled to create the design, which works in a similar way to ISOFIX /LATCH standards in passenger cars.
