Independent living aids manufacturer NRS Healthcare has announced its partnership with a charity providing support to limbless and injured veterans.

The charity, Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, is dedicated to assisting service and ex-servicemen and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the use of a limb, an eye or loss of sight in one of the armed forces.

Eva Georgiou, Head of ESG and Engagements, said: “Here at NRS Healthcare, we are committed to improving people’s health and independence every day.

“Blesma’s mission to assist limbless veterans to lead independent and fulfilling lives, speaks wholeheartedly of our own ambitions and we are honoured to support such an amazing charity.

“Blesma is the only national service charity that support limbless veterans for the duration of their lives, offering financial and emotional support to them and their families.

“NRS Healthcare will champion Blesma’s goals and values through collaborative projects, volunteering, fundraising and equipment donations. We look forward to a long and rewarding partnership.”

Blesma offers support via rehabilitative activities, welfare support and financial help for amputees. To be able to do so, they need funding and every year host a variety of events for people to get involved.

Chris Knight, Corporate Partnerships Manager for Blesma, commented: “We are delighted to have secured this partnership with NRS Healthcare and are really looking forward to building a strong and mutually beneficial partnership with them.

“NRS Healthcare’s aims of committing to improving people’s health and independence every day is so closely aligned to that of our own aims of assisting limbless veterans to lead independent and fulfilling lives, it’s a special partnership.

“It’s an exciting multi layered partnership which will not only see staff take part in fundraising and volunteering activities but will also see NRS Healthcare donate mobility equipment for our members.”

In November, the charity hosts an event called the Remembrance 11km, a virtual race where competitors can choose how they take part. This year, the charity’s third event, takes place on Sunday 13th November at 9am and finishes with a two-minute silence at 11am.

To mark this new partnership, Blesma is offering a 40 per cent discount to any NRS Healthcare colleagues, their friends and family, which will reduce the registration fee from £25 to £15.

Recently, staff from NRS Healthcare in Southampton took to the city centre over the weekend to raise money in aid of Southampton Hospitals Charity, which helps to enhance the care and treatment of patients at University Hospital Southampton.

In addition to the local fundraising undertaken by NRS colleagues, the company makes a corporate donation annually to Carers Trust to support national initiatives and research.
