Transport For All survey

Transport for All has launched a new campaign which it hopes will help to increase access to transport and streets for deaf and disabled people across the UK.

The disabled-led organization has launched a survey which aims to capture the experiences of deaf and disabled people using transport in England.

The Accessible Transport Survey will gather data on the lived experiences of disabled people, and will then be using it to campaign for change, ensuring that disabled people’s voices are at the heart of decision-making.

The responses from this survey will shape policies at Transport for All, and highlight areas where they need to concentrate their future work.

Chris Lofthouse, Community and Membership Manager, commented to THIIS: “The Transport for All survey is a new project aiming to capture the real-life experiences of Deaf, disabled and older people who use transport in England.Accessible Transport Survey front

“We want to find out the lived experiences of disabled and older people and the specific barriers faced which is so often missing from other research data. So often, it is the interchanges between modes of transport that can create barriers for people.

“Transport for All is running this survey to gather important detailed data to campaign for change, ensuring that disabled people’s experiences and voices are at the very heart of decision-making.”

The survey runs until Friday 21st October and is open to anyone who is a deaf or disabled person, over the age of 18, and lives in England. Those who complete the survey have the chance to enter into a prize draw, offering one person the chance to win £100 shopping vouchers, and twp people to win £50 vouchers.

The survey is available to fill out online, or it can be downloaded for print and returned in the post. It is also possible to book a session online via Zoom, with a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter and a staff member from Transport for All.

It is also possible to phone 020 8126 8161 for one of the team to call back and take you through the survey over the phone. The organisation will also be holding some smaller focus groups for anyone who is learning disabled and finds surveys inaccessible.

Earlier this year it was announced that the UK Government was joining with disability charity Scope to develop a new Disabled Persons Passenger Charter as part of its commitment to help make the UK transport network more inclusive and to making travel easier for disabled people,
