National retailer calls for elderly shoebox donations to give to people in hospital on Christmas Day
This year, Ableworld will be teaming up with the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, to help make Christmas Day in hospital a special day by presenting patients with presents.
Nearly 1,000 elderly people spend Christmas Day on a hospital bed, many without close family members who are able to visit them, so a small present to open can make a huge difference, says the retailer.
Ableworld is calling for the public to fill a shoebox with small items that many people take for granted, but that an elderly person would appreciate. Ideas include: puzzle books, hot chocolate, biscuits, warm socks, gloves, slippers, scarfs, hats, tins of soup, toiletries, confectionary, pens, puzzle books or handmade gifts. However, the retailer specifically states no alcohol.
Having been involved in similar initiatives for the last 2 years and collecting over 100 shoeboxes each time, Ableworld is hoping that this year, it can collect more and better shoeboxes.
The shoeboxes can be taken to Ableworld stores in Birkenhead, Burton, Chester, Congleton, Crewe, Hanley, Llandudno, Nantwich, Newport, Northwich, Oswestry, Reading, Rhyl, Shrewsbury, Stockport, Wrexham and the Ableworld Head Office in Nantwich. The deadline for this is the 17th December.
Ableworld will ensure all donations will be delivered directly to both hospitals before Christmas Day.
