Mountfield Services sponsors Team England wheelchair basketball star Charlie McIntyre
Essex-based stairlift specialist Mountfield Services has announced that it is sponsoring Team England wheelchair basketball star Charlie McIntyre.
The firm has funded a new day chair from Max Wheelchairs to help Charlie, 18, as he prepares for a move to Italy to turn professional. Charlie is set to play for Dinamo Sassari, one of the best wheelchair basketball leagues in the world.
Along with ensuring Charlie has the highest quality of life and independence, the new day chair will help Charlie get around Italy, to and from training and matches.
Mountfield Services logo will feature on Charlie’s new chair as well.as on clothing.
Lee Anderson, Manager of Mountfield Services, commented: “We cannot wait to continue working with Charlie in the near future.
“The hope is to see Charlie representing Team GB in the upcoming Paris Paralympics Olympic games, watching Charlie smashing it, and knowing the chair purchased with our sponsorship money has helped him with everyday obstacles to achieve his dreams.”
At just 17 years old Charlie was one of the youngest members of Team England’s men’s wheelchair basketball squad for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, coming away with a bronze medal.
The Essex starlet has always been involved in sport, having trained with Chelsea Football Club’s junior academy before being diagnosed with an illness which affects his hips at the age of six.
Lee got to know Charlie as he was the son of a client. After finding out that Charlie had represented Team GB in wheelchair basketball he inquired if he was looking for sponsorship.
It was perfect timing, explains Lee, as Charlie had been looking for a sponsor to help fund a day wheelchair that needed replacing.
A family-run business, Mountfield Services specialises in disability and mobility services, including home and workplace adaptations. It already has some large sponsorship partners, including The London Stadium.
