Medequip pair put in power pedal performance to finish in top 10% for Alzheimer’s Society
Raising over £1000 for the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity, Medequip’s Matt Ward and David Whitaker have successfully completed a gruelling 100-mile cycling challenge.
The pair finished the challenging Vélo Birmingham & Midlands road bike sportive, which saw thousands of riders take part in a picturesque but taxing closed road route journey through the West Midlands.
Pushing themselves to the limit and racing through panoramic countryside views, charming villages, two city centres, as well as some demanding and iconic climbs, the pair crossed the finish line in close to five and a half hours.
Both keen cyclists with extensive experience, the Medequip duo finished in the top 10 percent of the 17,000 riders that took part.
Medequip has been supporting The Alzheimer’s Society for almost two years and has raised a total of £40,000 to date via various events and challenges staged across the company. In addition to raising funds, partnering with the charity has also enabled Medequip to further the cause of dementia awareness within its own ranks, says the company.
Highlighting that the cycling duo thoroughly enjoyed combining their chosen sport with an opportunity to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, the company says both felt more than a few aches and pains – particularly after the climbs – the next day.
One of the longest serving providers of contracted out Community Equipment Services, Medequip works with local councils and commissioning groups across the UK, supplying equipment ranging from simple walking aids to sophisticated bed packages. The organisation also has a retail arm, selling mobility aids under its Manage at Home brand.
Alongside cycling, Medequip is encouraging recycling of loaned community equipment, announcing an initiative with North Yorkshire CCGs in February 2019 to urge residents to return unwanted mobility products and cut local health service costs by tens of thousands of pounds.https://thiis.co.uk/medequip-pair-put-in-power-pedal-performance-to-finish-in-top-10-for-alzheimers-society/https://i2.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/MattWard-DavidWhitaker-VeloBirmingham.jpg?fit=933%2C1024&ssl=1https://i2.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/MattWard-DavidWhitaker-VeloBirmingham.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1NewsroomSupplier NewsThird SectorCommunity Equipment Services, community loan equipment,David Whitaker, dementia, fundraising,Manage At Home,Matt Ward,Medequip,The Alzheimer's Society,Velo Birmingham & MidlandsRaising over £1000 for the UK's leading dementia support and research charity, Medequip’s Matt Ward and David Whitaker have successfully completed a gruelling 100-mile cycling challenge. The pair finished the challenging Vélo Birmingham & Midlands road bike sportive, which saw thousands of riders take part in a picturesque but taxing...Calvin BarnettCalvin Barnettcalvin@thiis.co.ukAdministratorTHIIS Magazine
