Sheffield-based postural support specialist Jenx and its UK distribution division Jiraffe have named CP Teens UK as their 2023 Charity of the Year.

The Chesterfield-based charity provides help, hope, inspiration and friendship to children, young people and beyond with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

Jenx and Jiraffe have a charity committee which selects an organisation for the company to support each year. This support is directed towards national, regional or local causes working to support children and families living with special needs.

Holly Jenkins, Director at Jiraffe said: “As part of our pledge to give back to the community, we select our chosen charity of the year based on several criteria, including being aligned with our company vision, mission and values.

CP Teens stood out as an organisation which has been set up to help young people with disabilities – so we automatically share a common goal.

“We recently celebrated our 40th anniversary, and CP Teens mark their 10th anniversary in 2023 so a collaboration between our business and the charity during both milestone years is an exciting prospect.”

Jenx and Jiraffe support their Charity of the Year through fundraising, providing advertising opportunities, taking part in environmental activities, volunteering, allowing the use of company resources and offering work placements.

Dan Limb, Director at Jenx said: “We know through our work to support children with disabilities that they can often feel isolated. That’s why we are supporting CP Teens as our Charity of the Year for 2023.

“CP Teens is a fantastic charity doing some crucial work for young people in our communities.

“I am looking forward to collaborating with the charity during 2023 and helping to support their fantastic work.”

CP Teens UK was founded in 2013 by Ellie Simpson, who has Cerebral Palsy. Ellie founded the charity after feeling isolated by able-bodied peers and frustrated at the lack of opportunities available to physically disabled youngsters.

Ellie said: “It’s an honour to be chosen as Jenx’s Charity of the Year, especially as a small charity that relies completely on volunteers, most of whom are family members and friends.

“Children and young people with physical disabilities often feel socially isolated and are unable to access opportunities that most able-bodied youngsters take for granted. CP Teens UK provides a support network and accessible opportunities, both in person and online, where youngsters and families can connect, feel included and make friends.

“It’s really special for CP Teens UK to have the support of Jenx and Jiraffe and we are extremely grateful.”
