Mel Wood, Fidgetbum

Fidgetbum, a non medicinal sleep aid, which is the brainchild of UK entrepreneur Melanie Wood, has been granted a design patent for the US market.

“This is fantastic news,” commented Melanie. “Over recent years, we have seen a substantial growth in overseas enquiries and took the decision to apply for this patent as we knew from research that there was a real demand for non-medicinal sleep aids in the US.”

Melanie is now looking to engage with potential retailers in the US and UK based retailers with a presence in the US as she prepares to launch Fidgetbum in America.

She added: “2022 promises to be a very exciting year in the Fidgetbum story and I am looking forward to introducing Fidgetbum to the thousands of families in the US with family members who are struggling with sleep along with the therapists who work with them.”

Fidgetbum is a soothing, non-medicinal sleep aid. A stretchy wrap-around device that snugly holds the covers in place without restricting the person in bed, it also provides a sense of security that sleep experts have likened to a warm hug.

It was initially invented to help Melanie’s toddler daughter transition into a bed and sleep through the night, but the entrepreneur said that she began receiving very positive feedback from parents of children with additional sensory needs.

Sleep disturbances, she found, are often a major issue for children with autism and this can really take its toll on their families.

The product is used by people of all ages with a huge cross-section of conditions ranging from cerebral palsy and autism to restless leg syndrome and anxiety.

Last year, it was announced that Fidgetbum had completed its first order in New Zealand, and it had appointed distributors in Europe, Canada, South Africa and the United States.
