Crispin Orthotics
Ability Matters Group is set to boost its technology offering after acquiring Crispin Orthotics.

Mobility equipment supplier Ability Matters Group is hoping to further boost its presence in the prosthetic and orthotic market after acquiring Crispin Orthotics.

Leeds-based Crispin Orthotics specialises in producing and maintaining orthotic devices, developing innovative products using digital workflows and 3D printing. Its use of Multi Jet Fushion technology by HP, for instance, has enabled it to produce parts that are strong and flexible enough to be made into orthotics that can endure a human’s everyday movements.

Mark Thaxter, the former owner of Crispin Orthotics, commented: “Ability Matters Group have grown into the largest prosthetic and orthotic organisation in the UK and have a drive to push our industry forward.

“The coming together of our teams and ethos will assist in the progression of our industry, ensuring that people requiring our services will have access to the highest levels of care and outcomes.

“My belief in this progression will see my employment continue with the group, focusing on the development of new and exciting custom-made prosthetic and orthotic products.”

John O’Byrne, Chief Executive Officer at Ability Matters Group, added: “So happy that Crispin Orthotics have today become part of Ability Matters Group.

“Beyond excited about the future and the opportunity to work with Mark and the team to support their current customers, and also in making the technology available through our wider Group!”

Founded in 1989, Ability Matters Group has established major healthcare contracts for prosthetic, orthotic, postural and mobility services in the UK and Ireland.

The firm used to have a network of retail outlets before turning its focus on its core clinical services contracts. It owns a number of associated brands involved with the provision of products and services that improve their mobility and accessibility.

With headquarters in Oxfordshire, the group employs over 800 staff across the UK and Europe. Last month, the firm confirmed its acquisition of ProActive Prosthetics, a firm offering a wide range of products and services to people affected by limb loss.
