Bayliss Mobility expansion NuHorizon

Pushing ahead with its ambitious expansion plans, Bayliss Mobility is moving to a new headquarters with a retail showroom and manufacturing department in the coastal town of Bridlington.

First launched in 2001 by Gary and Carol Braithwaite, East Yorkshire-based Bayliss Mobility has ridden the wave of changes in the mobility retail sector over its almost two decades.

Originally entering the mobility market as an engineer working on NHS wheelchairs for an outsourced provider in 1994, Gary moved into mobility retail in 2001 when he opened his first branch in Driffield in 2001.

Over the following years, the company would operate three stores across East Yorkshire in Beverley and York, before downsizing to just its York store by the mid-2000s.

After experiencing the growing problem of customers visiting the showroom to test products before going online to purchase it cheaper, often discarding the importance of aftersales care, Gary and Carol decided to move to an online model in 2013.

The pair set out to sell simple aids to daily living from their home online, however, they found their operations ramping back up as a result of strong demand and sales. Within a year, the company had moved into a 500 sq. ft unit in Driffield to handle its growing order book.

Now, after seven years, Bayliss Mobility employees a team of nine and has recently launched its own line of healthcare products which will be manufactured from its new HQ in the popular tourist destination of Bridlington.

“I am really excited to be moving Bayliss Mobility to Bridlington,” commented Gary Braithwaite, Managing Director of Bayliss Mobility.

“When I started this company with my wife, Carol, over 20 years ago, I never thought we would get to a point of having our own trademarked brand and opening our own showroom in Bridlington.”

Bayliss Mobility’s new NuHorizons Healthcare Products brand will be manufactured from its spacious new premises, which also includes a warehouse and office space.

“We have been at our current site in Kirkburn for the past few years and it has served us really well, being the perfect platform to grow the business,” continued Gary.

“But now we have become too big and our new spot is going to be perfect for not only now but also to keep growing in the years to come. We have big plans and Bridlington is going to be the perfect place to launch them.”

Gary confirmed the NuHorizons line, which includes daily living aids, wheelchair accessories, pressure care products and mobility aids, will be available to the trade from November.

In addition, the new space will include a modern showroom, marking a full circle for Bayliss Mobility as it returns to bricks and mortar retail.

Positioned on one of the coastal town’s main traffic arteries, Bayliss Mobility says it aims to benefit from the area’s significant footfall, as well as its close proximity to local tourist attractions such as the seafront and Bridlington Spa.

According to the company, it plans to be fully operations from the new site by the beginning of November, with the expansion indicating incorporate a completely new direction for the growing company.
