Employees from Stannah Stairlifts took on ‘Challenge Everest’ in an effort to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.

‘Challenge Everest’ took place in Andover – Stannah’s headquarters – where each team member used the company’s four-flight staircase to climb the set of stairs 442 times (which is the equivalent of climbing Everest) to complete the distance.

Two teams – Team Hilary and Team Tenzing – took part in the challenge with the groups taking five hours and over eight hours respectively to complete ‘Challenge Everest.’

Despite one member of team Tenzing having to withdraw because of an injury, other Stannah employees, including Managing Director Tim Eagles, stepped in to help the team complete the challenge.

Sammie Cook, Engage Project Support at Stannah, told the Andover Advertiser: “We wanted to set ourselves a fundraising challenge that we could achieve within the walls of Stannah’s head office using only the resources we had at our disposal. Not having to spend money on travel and other expenses means that 100 per cent of the money raised will go to our two chosen charities.”

The challenge provided an extra boost from Stannah’s 150 fund, which means that the grand total is likely to reach almost £5,000.

Supporting various charities each year, the company created the ‘Stannah 150 Charity Fund’ in 2017 to mark its 150th year anniversary, matching funds raised by its staff for charitable causes by 150 percent.    Aiming to reach a target of £150,000, the company had raised £112,439 by January 2018.

Sammie continued: “We would all like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us with ‘Challenge Everest’, whether through sponsorship or by cheering us on throughout the day.”

Established in 1867, Stannah Stairlifts is a manufacturer and installer of a variety of stairlifts such as platform lifts and passenger lifts.
