Stuart Barrow OTAC Recliners

Stuart Barrow, prominent OT and owner of private OT practice Promoting Independence, is working with Welsh seating manufacturer Recliners in a new partnership to provide valuable clinical advice for a new range of chairs.

Aiming to work closely with the organisations it supplies across the UK, Recliners will work with Stuart and his Promoting Independence team of associates as it manufactures a range of new chairs aimed at meeting the complex needs of end-users.

The founder and MD of the popular Occupational Therapy Adaptation Conference (OTAC), Stuart has previously worked with Recliners to run training sessions with clinicians on a selection of Recliners’ specialist seating to help the company understand which markets would most benefit from their ranges.

In particular, the sessions focused on Recliners’ Multicare and Eco-flex ranges, which can be adapted to meet the needs of clients whose funding is often through statutory services and loan equipment stores.

Discussing the new collaboration, Stuart commented: “As an Occupational Therapist whose background is social services and adapting environments, alongside specialist moving and handling plans, I have seen first-hand the great work Recliners do as a company and feel privileged to join them to provide expert clinical input alongside my team of associates.

“Seating is a specialism and more people are living with complex needs within the community and often want to fund chairs privately, through charities or even just the assessment so that statutory services can consider funding.

“Working with Recliners helps them develop their knowledge of clinical needs of clients and enables all staff to gain an understanding of what clinicians require as well as what the end-user needs when sourcing a chair.”

Now the clinical experts will provide valuable advice in the design and development process of Recliners new specialist seating products, from standard high back chairs to care chairs, aligning the specifications of the chairs inline with needs of carers and users.

Matt Davies, Director at Recliners, said: “The collaboration with Stuart and the team was a no brainer. After numerous discussions at OTAC events, it was clear to us that Stuart has a vast amount of clinical knowledge, with a passionate team around him. Our ethos is to make a positive impact on people’s lives, via the use of our quality product and this is a shared passion with Stuart.

“Utilising our industry knowledge accumulated over years of experience, our goal is to further improve our product with feedback from clinicians; we want to know as a company what can we do to streamline the sourcing process.

“Our Multicare and Eco-flex models cater to multiple users of all shapes and sizes and can see a user from childhood through to adulthood.

“We look forward to what the future holds with this collaboration.”
