Independent living and mobility specialists Obam Stairlifts has donated £500 to Graham Nicholson who is cycling from Barnsley to Amsterdam next month to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.

Graham is taking part in Prostate Cancer UK’s Football to Amsterdam 2018, a 145 mile ‘pedal pilgrimage’ to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

More than 400 football fans from across the country are expected to take part and Graham and his team are hoping to raise a minimum of £5,000 between them.

Graham said: “I’m part of a large family and sadly we have lost a lot of people to cancer. To me, prostate cancer is the male equivalent of breast cancer, and unfortunately it affects many men.

“If I can help make even one more person aware of the disease, I’d be pleased that I’d made a difference.

“I’m so grateful to Obam Stairlifts for the donation. It’s helped towards me achieving my personal target for this event and means that more research into this particular type of cancer can continue, and hopefully save more lives.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer amongst men, one in eight of whom get the disease in their lifetime. Every hour one man dies from prostate cancer, which adds up to more than 10,800 men each year.

In 2017 more than 380 football fans took part in Football to Amsterdam and over £600,000 was raised between them which is enough money to pay for over a year’s worth of research to save lives.

Lee Ogden, one of the Directors of Obam Stairlifts, said: “Graham is a good friend of mine and we’re more than happy to support him with his fundraising. We really admire his goal of raising both funds and awareness of prostate cancer.

“Hopefully our donation can help his team reach their target and we all wish them the best of luck for the ride.”

The ride begins on 1st June at Barnsley Football Club and finishes two days later at Ajax’s Amsterdam Arena, two weeks before the World Cup kicks off.

Established in 2000, Obam Stairlifts provides full installation and maintenance services for stair lifts, through-floor-lifts and hoists.
