Motability The Big Event 2017 image

After a successful event in 2018 which saw over 20,000 in attendance, Motability has announced the return of its The Big Event on the 28th and 29th June 2019 at the NEC in Birmingham, the first of a series of events taking place over the summer.

The charity’s flagship event in Birmingham boasts the widest range of cars, scooters and powerchairs for disabled people to test drive, with 2018’s event seeing the introduction of new features, including passenger WAV test drive experiences and a series of hourly sessions which Motability live-streamed through its Facebook Page.

Alison Beasley, One Big Day Event Manager at Motability Operations Ltd, said: “The One Big Day events have continued to be extremely popular and attracted over 20,000 visitors in 2018, and we’re excited to welcome even more people to the events this year.

“The Big Event at its new venue, the NEC, proved to be very popular with over 8,000 disabled people and their families coming along to find out about worry-free motoring with the Motability Scheme.”

According to Motability, this year’s event will give visitors more of a chance to test drive adapted and non-adapted vehicles, as well as opportunities to gather information and advice from Motability Scheme advisors on hand.

In addition to The Big Event at the NEC in Birmingham, the charity will also host four more regional One Big Days across the UK in the summer:

  • Saturday 27 July, One Big Day at Westpoint, Exeter
  • Saturday 10 August, One Big Day at Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate
  • Saturday 7 September, One Big Day at East of England Arena, Peterborough
  • Saturday 21 September, One Big Day at Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh

With 1.8m people in receipt of a qualifying allowance allowing them to choose to lease through the Motability, there are 629k customers who currently choose to use the Scheme through 4,800 approved Motability dealers across the UK.

Contracted by Motability (the Charity) to operate the Motability Car, Powered Wheelchair & Scooter Scheme, Motability Operations has run the Scheme since the late 70s with the objective of providing a ‘worry-free’ mobility vehicle leasing to qualifying recipients.

Motability Operations recently came under scrutiny following an NAO report into its executive bonus structure.
