Nigel Fletcher is the new CEO at the Motability Foundation

Nigel Fletcher has been appointed as the new CEO of the Motability Foundation. With a wealth of experience from the service sector Nigel previously held senior roles at both Tesco and Pets at Home.

Nigel said: “I’m excited to be joining the Motability Foundation and being part of such a passionate and committed team. I have a lived experience of disability as I’ve lived with a serious visual impairment since birth which restricts my ability to travel.

“It is vital for disabled people to be able to access transport so they can make the journeys they choose, and I’m looking forward to using the full range of my experience to help the Motability Foundation deliver an even greater impact.”

Charles Manby MBE, Chair of the Board of Governors of the Motability Foundation said: “We are delighted to appoint Nigel Fletcher as our new Chief Executive Officer. The Governors were very impressed with Nigel’s extensive experience from a number of senior roles, as well as his personal values and commitment to improving the lives of disabled people.

“I would also like to thank Barry Le Grys for his leadership and determination over the past four and a half years. Barry has been a tremendous leader of the Motability Foundation, showing empathy at all levels, developing people and creating a mutually supportive team spirit.  He had led a number of new initiatives which are helping us to support more disabled people than ever.”

Nigel brings with him a breadth of experience from a 25-year career in the corporate world, eight years as a trustee for two charities and with his own lived experience of disability.

Talking about his disability, Nigel said: “My visual impairment impacts me in many ways but most notable is the impact on my mobility. However, I would also say that my disability is also my greatest asset as it’s helped me become a better person and a better leader.”

Nigel’s most recent charity trustee experience was with a national social care charity providing care and support for people with learning disabilities and complex mental health needs. Nigel held roles including Chair of the Organisational Design and Resources Committee and Senior Independent Director. He will succeed the Motability Foundation’s former Chief Executive Barry Le Grys, who is leaving after four and a half years in the role at the end of March 2024.

In October 2023, the Motability Foundation gave its endorsement to assessment schemes run by AccessAble and BSI Assurance UK that check the accessibility of public electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints.
