“The motivation behind the giveaway is to give back, and to help someone who is struggling to get out during COVID-19,” explained Kristian Binns, Marketing Manager for Kardinal Independent Living.

“Mental health issues are only getting worse during the pandemic, so having the freedom with a brand-new mobility scooter could change someone’s life.”

The competition is held annually by Kardinal Independent Living; however, this year has seen the company up the size of the prize to try and help end of a challenging year on a positive note.

“We decided to increase the price of the giveaway because this year especially has been difficult for everyone,” added Kristian.

So far, the competition has seen the post rack up over 65 likes, 80 comments and 30 shares in less than a week, boosting the retailer’s exposure on the social media platform.

Discussing the importance of using social media to reach its customers, Kristian highlighted how important the channel has been for helping it maintain relationships with its customers over the disrupted year.

“COVID-19 limits our connection with our customers face-to-face, so being able to give them news/posts on social media really helps,” he said.

“Social media has proven to be very effective for us, especially with helping customers with any issues that they have with their mobility scooters.”

Launched in 2011 as an extension to its care agency by Helen, Carl and Connor Hancorn, Kardinal Independent living now operates two mobility showrooms in West Sussex, as well as a warehouse and an online store.

“2020 for Kardinal Independent Living has been full of ups and downs because of COVID-19 but we have managed to adapt and get through it,” reflected Kristian.

“It has been nice to give back this year with providing customers with their shopping, as they were not about get out during lockdown.”

Responding to the rapidly shifting mobility retail environment, Kristian noted that the company also moved quickly to ensure it had a large amount of preowned mobility scooters available to purchase from its eBay store and website.

“For 2021 we look forward to hopefully going back to normal and welcoming back our existing customers who have been too worried to go out,” he finished.

“For 2021, we also look forward to attending country shows and providing mobility scooter hire, which we were unable to do this year, such as the Hickstead Horse Show and South of England Show.”
