Mobility boss highlights preparation needed to win public sector contracts after successful tender
Bristol-based, independent mobility specialist TVM Cheltenham has recently been awarded its second consecutive public sector contract win with South Gloucestershire local authority.
Spanning a five-year period, with the option of a three-year extension, the framework contract will see TVM Cheltenham supply, install, maintain, repair, remove, store and reinstall ceiling tracks, as well as wall-mounted and gantry hoists for disabled people in domestic premises.
According to the company, the delivery of the contract will involve a complete client/service process, from the initial meeting of the service user and their carer and/or the occupational therapist, to assess the requirements for the provision of the correct equipment, installation of the equipment and the ongoing maintenance and LOLER requirements for the duration of its requirement.
To complete the process, TVM Cheltenham will be responsible for removal, storage and reuse of equipment.
“Winning a contract takes a lot of preparation,” explained Kevin O’Leary, Founder and MD of TVM.
“Preparing the tender is time-consuming and labour intensive. It is the second time we have been successful in a tender process; however, we first did so 13 years ago. South Gloucestershire was the first local authority contract win that TVM Cheltenham gained in 2003.”
Founded in 2000 as just a one-man band ran solely by MD Kevin O’Leary, TVM has been operating in the South West for almost 20 years, growing organically by winning work in both the public and private sector.
It was this first contract win with South Gloucestershire that would go on to have a profound impact on the company reflects Kevin, enabling TVM to expand its team and operations.
“In 2003, when we secured the first South Gloucestershire contract, the company was only our Finance Director, Catherine O’Leary and myself. This win enabled us to employ a dedicated service engineer,” he said.
“As a result of the success of the first written tender, we continued to build our reputation. We expanded and developed our team, whilst maintaining the delivery of an excellent and complete service at a reasonable price.
“Jump forward to 2019, with two tender processes under our belt, and following much hard graft by us all, we are hugely proud of our team of ten local people.”
Kevin finished: “On a personal note, being a small family-run company, Catherine and I are very pleased that we were able to regain this contract, as we know the competition was fierce.”
