Wolturnus Loopwheels
British shock-absorbing wheel supplier Loopwheels is teaming up with Danish wheelchair manufacturer Wolturnus on a vibration-reducing manual wheelchair.

Loopwheels developed the lightweight wheel with suspension, enabling it to work at higher speeds and for different surfaces. Springs in the wheel utilise high-tech carbon composite materials and are available in three strengths, allowing the user to get the best comfort and health protection for their needs.

Handmade in the UK, its Urban wheels are available in 24” and 25” sizes as an option for new Wolturnus manual wheelchairs, which will be tailored for specific customers who experience discomfort that is triggered by vibration or jolts, or when they are self-propelling or using a power attachment to travel over rougher ground.

Gemma Pearce, Managing Director of Loopwheels, said: “This is very important news for customers as it helps them to get the right solution first time, rather than having to buy Loopwheels separately afterwards. We are delighted to be working with Wolturnus who share our passion for using expert engineering to solve customer problems”.

Christian Gammelgaard Oleson, Wolturnus Chief Technical Officer added: “We have constantly innovated to help solve the big issues that wheelchair users face, and Loopwheels will be a great addition for some groups of our customers”

Many active wheelchair users could benefit from reducing Whole Body Vibration (WBV), according to Loopwheels, as research has shown that WBV can regularly hit harmful levels for manual wheelchair users, causing compression of the spine, contributing to lower back pain, spasms, fatigue and spasticity.

Weighing under 1.36kg per wheel, Loopwheels claim to remove up to 70 per cent of harmful vibration and reduce the impact of bumps and jolts than with standard spoked wheels.
