Fascinating podcast with Leckey’s founder gives insights into entrepreneurial journey
An insightful and candid interview with James Leckey, founder & CEO of paediatric equipment manufacturer Leckey, discusses the inventor’s journey from tinkering with products in a home workshop to becoming a leading global supplier of children’s seating and mobility systems.
In the new Best Of Belfast podcast and video, James reflects on his past working in the family floristry business in the heart of Belfast to becoming an international manufacturer and exporter of products that have changed children’s lives across the world.
Formed over 34 years ago, the Lisburn-headquartered designer, manufacturer and distributor specialise in children’s seating, postural and mobility aids, selling 98 per cent of its products outside of Northern Ireland.
Explaining why the quote “the harder I work, the luckier I get” is often at the root of what he does, James touches on his personal values and motivations which have gone on to form the foundations of Leckey.
“So if I’m talking to therapists and talking to clinicians in our industry and even some of the trade partners, I’ll say to them that quote and explain that what it means is the more we do that’s right for the kids, the better commercially we are, the more we grow and the more successful we are,” said James in the interview.
The fascinating interview also highlights some of James’ personal challenges of remaining true to himself whilst becoming the leader of an internationally-recognised, successful company.
Highlighting the importance of having compassion and being trustworthy in the industry and embedding these into his business, he also explains his need to have processes and clear goals to maintain structure and path the way for growth.
