Staff at the UK’s most northerly Motability powered wheelchair and scooter dealership have all received their first vaccination thanks to NHS Highland.

The nine staff of City Mobility, which is based in Inverness, Scotland, welcomed the opportunity to be vaccinated so they could add to their measures to their elderly and disabled customers.

In addition, the mobility retailer recently supplied the P&J Live event complex with a free loan of wheelchairs so people with reduced mobility could attend the NHS Grampian Aberdeen Covid Vaccination Centre for their appointment.

A number of businesses in the mobility sector have been aiding in the UK’s vital COVID-19 vaccination programme by providing wheelchairs to help people attend their appointments, including AJM Healthcare, Yorkshire Care Equipment, NRS Healthcare and Modern Mobility.

City Mobility covers just over half of Scotland. Like many other mobility businesses, in March 2020, it closed for all but essential purposes, and covering this huge area became even more challenging, Managing Director Carol Elliot explained.

“Covering such a huge area is logistically challenging at the best of times but with a unique business model of Motability and private customers; scooters, powerchair and car adaptations; sales and aftersales services, it works with economies of scale,” she said.

“However, during the first lockdown we worked in partnership with Able Care, another Inverness and Aberdeen based mobility business specialising in stairlifts and hoists, home adaptations, living aids and specialist furniture that were also covering essential call-outs over the same are with its stairlifting team.”

Fortunately, City Mobility says that its business area remained in the lower of Scotland tier system so that it could, with the appropriate measures, continue trading once lockdown was lifted until the Boxing Day lockdown.

Founded in 2002, City Mobility supplies, services and repairs new and second-hand mobility scooters and powerchairs for private customers. The dealer is also authorised to install, repair and service a wide range of car adaptations.

Furthermore, the mobility retailer also services and repairs wheelchair lifts and hoists in commercial, private and charitable vehicles and fits dual controls for driving instructors.
