During the winter months, the NHS comes under significant pressure as demands for acute and community services increase with the onset of cold weather, and Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare is preparing bespoke community equipment packages to help ease the strain.

According to research by the British Medical Association (BMA), on 1 May 2019, nine in 10 NHS trusts were still using escalation beds.

Escalation beds are extra hospital beds brought into the NHS to help cope with demand beyond the ‘core bed stock’.

Furthermore, on 4 March 2020, BMA reported that just nine trusts (out of 105) were not using escalation beds, highlighting that hospitals’ core bed stock is no longer able to deal with the level of year-round demand on the NHS.

Recognising that one of the biggest challenges for the NHS during winter is maintaining bed occupancy levels to keep services running, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic threatening to reduce further bed capacity especially in high dependency environments, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare says it has a range of medical equipment readily available.

In addition, the equipment supplier can provide bespoke community equipment packages to facilitate patient discharge back home or into a community care setting.

Drive DeVilbiss says it can provide specialist equipment to meet the most demanding of requirements, offering rapid response times as quickly as 4-6 hours delivered by its nationwide service network.

With a selection of acute and community beds and mattresses, stocked in the UK and available immediately for despatch, as well as a “significant” stock of rental products ready to deliver, Drive DeVilbiss is reaffirming that is able to meet customer needs quickly with a seamless service.

Offering bespoke rental equipment packages, from ward and community electrically profiling beds to more specialist equipment, Drive DeVilbiss pledges to help customers hit their targets and maintain patient care.
