Herefordshire-based wheelchair manufacturer Chunc is set to target larger sizes with its new XL offering in response to customer demand.

Its patented design recognises that everyone is individual and offers a very high level of adaptability.

To date, Chunc has focused primarily on creating postural and mobility solutions for children and young people.

As its technology ensures its chairs can grow with the customer, responding to changes in height, weight or medical condition, there has been a increasing number of requests for a larger size.

Lucinda Sharp-Smith, Director of Chunc, explains: “Many customers are so fond of their Chunc chairs that they continue to use them into their 30s and beyond.

“We have always been able to accommodate up to 110kg user weight but customers have been asking for a greater range of dimensions.

“The XL provides wider and deeper seat widths, longer leg length as well as increased back width and height. Our ultimate aim is to enable more people to enjoy Chunc’s high level of adaptability and postural support, regardless of age or size.”

Chunc’s two-week free demo scheme is available for all sizes of chair, including the XL. The XL will also be showcased at the Kidz to Adultz South on 16 May in Farnborough, stand D1.

Chunc is a family-run business that was created when the Smith family could not find a suitable wheelchair for their daughter Sophie, who was born severely disabled and later diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

With a background in designing and manufacturing products for the aerospace industry, the family wanted to revolutionise the functionality, styling and user-friendliness of children’s wheelchairs and patented its design in Europe and the US.

Chunc wheelchairs are made from start to finish in Hereford, where the company also makes the machine and injection moulded components.
