Disability Smart Awards

The Business Disability Forum is looking for organisations that are using or have created technologies to change the lives of disabled people for its Disability Smart Awards 2023, which is open for nominations on 1 December.

The awards are free to enter and open to UK and global organisations of any size in any sector.

From global leaders and D&I practitioners, innovative campaigners and change-making influencers to product develops, the Disability Smart Awards give organisations the opportunity share their work and to inspire others.

There are 10 Disability Smart award categories this year. These include Disability Smart Technology, Accessible Built Environment and Inclusive Workplace Experience. There is also a new award for this year – Disability Smart Inclusive Product Design.

Business Disability Forum is looking for an organisation which has used technology to improve the life opportunities and experiences of disabled people, in the workplace, as a consumer or in wider society.

This might be through an innovative use of existing technology or through the development of a new digital or assistive technology product that has been created within the last 18 months.

The Disability Smart Technology Award is one of 10 disability smart categories for 2023. The full list of awards is as follows:

  1. Disability Smart Diversity and Inclusion Professional
  2. Disability Smart Leader
  3. Disability Smart Technology
  4. Disability Smart Inclusive Workplace Experience
  5. Disability Smart Inclusive Recruitment
  6. Disability Smart Inclusive Communication
  7. Disability Smart Inclusive Customer Service
  8. Disability Smart Accessible Built Environment
  9. Disability Smart Learning and Development
  10. Disability Smart Inclusive Product Design

There are three additional awards for organisations registered for the Government’s Disability Confident employer scheme. These are for Mental Health and Wellbeing at Work, Impact and Small Business.

Last year’s winners included, Unilever, Skipton Building Society, University of Warwick, HSBC, Microsoft, Oliver James, Signly, GSK, KPMG, and British Land.

The awards open for entries on 1 December and nominees are encouraged to visit here for further information and to find out how to enter. The closing date for all nominations is 5pm (GMT) on Thursday 19 January 2023. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 27 April.

Business Disability Forum is the leading business membership organisation in disability inclusion. It works with business, Government and disabled people to improve the life experiences of disabled employees and consumers, by removing barriers to inclusion.
