Apex Medical
Worcester-based Apex Medical Limited has become the first ever UK company to be certificated by ISO Quality Services with the new ISO 45005 COVID-19 safety certification.

Apex Medical, which specialises in the design and manufacture of community and acute sector pressure area care and profiling bed products, obtained the certification in just 12 weeks.

A spokesperson for the firm said that it wanted to ensure the safety of its employees and customers and provide peace of mind that the business was doing everything it could to stay safe.

To assist with this, the firm stated that it attended a webinar on the brand new COVID-19 safety certification hosted by the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce and ISO providers, ISO Quality Services.

According to a spokesperson, the business was familiar with the benefits of ISO certification having already obtained ISO 9001 Quality and ISO 14001 Environmental certifications in place with another ISO provider.

Graeme Silk, Lead Assessor at ISO Quality Services conducted a risk assessment remotely to ensure it was safe to carry out a physical visit. He commented that it was clear that Apex Medical already had a lot of safety measures in place.

He said: “Significant safety systems have been created around the business activities applicable to COVID-19 that have been applied to the Worcester based facility and its activities.

“ISO Quality Services have been engaged with the objective of conducting a review of the existing safety systems and ensure that they meet the requirements of the ISO 45005:2020 COVID-19 Safe Working Standard.

“During the process I had the pleasure of working with Sue Richards the HR Manager at Apex Medical conducting a top-level review and implementation of control systems concerning COVID-19.

“The existing COVID-19 safety systems at Apex Medical have been enhanced and augmented to ensure that the very best protocols are employed governing Apex Medical business activities.

“Sue Richards has demonstrated an extensive understanding of the safety requirements necessary in order to comply with current Government guidelines as well as meeting the requirements of ISO 45005.

“The safety systems established are dynamic, relevant and designed to develop and evolve as does the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Apex Medical, which is a UK subsidiary of global brand, Apex Medical Corp, is set to join the exhibitor stands at the upcoming British Healthcare Trade Show on 15 June 2021, the mobility and access industry’s only B2B event made for the trade.
