Monday 19th:

Age UK Bedfordshire is set to receive £20,000 from Bedford Borough Council to support its Get Set for Winter Campaign, as detailed in the report for residents aged 50 and over who are struggling with the cost of living, energy bills and keeping warm.

Karen Perry, CEO of Age UK Bedfordshire, said: “Thanks to Bedford Borough Council’s £20,000 grant we will be able to provide additional frontline services to older people who risk being overwhelmed by high inflation. It will enable Age UK Bedfordshire to offer advice and support to those most in need.”

Age UK Bedfordshire is a member of the National Council on ageing. It is supported by donations from the public, income from its charity shops and some charitable grants.

Dave Hodgson, Elected Mayor of Bedford Borough, added: “It’s great that Age UK Bedfordshire’s Get Set for Winter Campaign is continuing this winter and I am pleased that Bedford Borough Council will be able to support this vital work.

“This grant will be used for residents who are struggling with the cost of living, energy bills and keeping warm.”

“The advice and support Age UK provides can have a profound effect on enabling older people to access the financial support they may otherwise be missing out on, and valuable practical and emotional support.”

Bedford Borough Council also worked with local partners to develop a Warm Spaces network to offer free, non-judgemental spaces where people can go to stay warm and maybe enjoy some company and a hot drink, or simply spend time reading a magazine or book.

Residents that have a health condition that could be made worse by living in a cold or damp home, may be eligible for support through the Warm Homes Bedford Borough Service, which has been set-up by the local NHS and Bedford Borough Council to support local residents identified by the NHS.

Recently, Medequip formed a new partnership with Age UK Wirral to encourage community equipment returns.
