Changing Places facilityHealthcare equipment provider Innova Care Concepts has installed a Changing Places restroom facility at the iconic heritage railway station at Ravenglass, that sits on the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway in West Cumbria, to enable disabled people to better access the station and museum.

The new Changing Places facility is a fully accessible restroom that can be used not just by visitors to the railway and museum, but also the public.

Changing Places are advanced, accessible toilet facilities designed specifically to cater to the needs of individuals who require more support and space than standard, and include additional equipment such as a hoist, adult sized changing bench and space for carers.

The Changing Places toilet, devised and installed by Innova Care Concepts makes a fundamental difference to visitors with disabilities and continues the trend of making public spaces accessible to all, particularly individuals who require assistance and use specialist mobility equipment including wheelchairs.

Innova Care Concepts Managing Director Tom Hulbert; “Our primary mission is to utilise the technology we have in order to make the UK a more equitable society with access for everyone. We are delighted to have installed these new facilities at Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway station to make accessibility easier for all their visitors and the general public.”

A consortium of leading charitable organisations including Muscular Dystrophy UK, Age Concern and the Disability Alliance have been actively campaigning for widespread access to Changing Places since 2006.

According to a survey commissioned by the Research Institute for Disabled Consumers, 81 per cent said that by having access to a Changing Places toilet facility at a transport network allowed them to have a day out.

Its survey found that 50 per cent of survey of respondents found it difficult to find out where CPT’s are located when planning a trip, which highlights the importance of accessibility and increasing general awareness.

In February 2024 Innova Care Concepts installed a Changing Places restroom facility for visitors with severe disabilities in the newly-renovated Bolton Library and Museum.
