The Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) runs the Shopmobility Service in Wrexham, North Wales, and has been selected as one of the Co-op charity partners for the next six-nine months.

From the new partnership, the hope is that it will generate £7,000-£8,000 and upwards towards new scooters and the refurbishment of the Shopmobility’s current fleet, in addition to added publicity and activity within the scheme.

The charity gives one percent of what members spend on Co-op branded food products in its stores and selected services, as well as money raised from the sales of carrier bags and Co-op scratch cards, to local projects. Examples include improving community spaces, helping school leavers learn life skills and connecting people.

In addition, the Co-op also donates raffle prizes and counter bucket collections to supplement the 1 percent.

Co-op members have helped raise £19 million for local causes since November 2017.

If residents buy a pint of milk from their local Co-op store, they could be actively contributing to making their community better without spending any extra money.

Co-op members can sign in online to see the causes their local Co-op is supporting and choose which one they want their own money to go to.

Any customer who has a Co-op card, throughout the country, can select the AVOW Shopmobility scheme through this link.

The National Federation of Shopmobility (NFSUK) is encouraging other Shopmobility schemes to approach their local Co-op to see how they can apply to be one of the selected charities/good causes.
