Kakoon sleep aid headphones

Using the same technology currently being used in sleep labs to sense brainwaves combined with three layers of noise-cancelling, audio specialist Kokoon has launched its unique, sleep-aiding headphones to the market.

Designed to be a “non-pharmaceutical, digital ‘go-to’ for helping people relax and sleep easier,” the company announced the innovative sleep aids are now available for general sale after a highly successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 which raised £1.5 million.

With now one in three people in the UK being affected by insomnia according to NHS Choices and a purported 50 percent of Brits reporting struggles with sleep claims Mintel, it is expected that every single person will, at some point in their life, experience struggles with sleep.

Founded by Tim Antos, who personally struggled with insomnia, he was inspired to look into finding a convenient solution after attending many sessions at a sleep clinic where he was introduced to a range of sleep insights and techniques.

“I wanted to make all this knowledge, all these great tools I learnt in the sleep clinic, more accessible to the everyday consumer to use on their own terms,” commented Tim Antos, CEO of Kokoon.

Kakoon sleep aiding headphone appThe sensor-enabled ANC headphones include the Kokoon app which tracks sleep cycles and features techniques, tracks and concepts developed with sleep professionals to optimise the chances of falling asleep.

According to the company, many of these techniques feature a form of talking therapy known as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – an evidence-based therapy that has proven to be effective when treating insomnia.

Using sensor data gathered from a user’s body and environment, the app and headphones deliver a customised content experience claims Kakoon, such as changing the audio content when a wearer falls asleep, including fading out the content and introducing white noise to mask out disturbances.

In addition, the company says the system also tracks what is effective for helping the user to fall asleep, personalising content around this to achieve a greater effect.

Boasting its patented Flexmould Comfort design which moulds to the shape of the user’s head to ensure comfort when sleep, Kakoon’s Relax Headphones also feature a number of world-first innovations in sensing and comfort.

In particular, its Sleepguard technology quietens as the wearer falls asleep whilst the EEG sensors measure the wearer’s brainwaves, motion, heart rate and environment, tracking to learn what is helping them rest and relax.

Shipping internationally from its website for £349.00, the company’s sleep-aiding headphones are also being sold via retailers Selfridges and In-Motion UK.
