money cash pounds support

Wales’ public services will receive a cash boost of more than £682 million to support their COVID efforts over the coming months, the Welsh Government has announced.

The package includes more than £635 million for the NHS and local authorities to help them support the people of Wales over the next six months. This significant investment will support the government’s coronavirus vaccination programme so people can be protected as quickly as possible.

The government says that the funding will also enable it to boost testing capacity and bolster its contact tracing programme.

In addition, the package includes an additional £206.5 million for the Local Government Hardship Fund, supporting vital social care services and ensuring schools are able to adapt to their new ways of working.

A further £10.5 million will extend the Discretionary Assistance Fund, providing support for the most vulnerable people in Wales during these difficult times.

The government is also strengthening support for apprenticeships through our economy with an extra £16.5 million investment and a further £18.6 million to maintain vital public transport provision.

First Minster Mark Drakeford said: “Throughout the pandemic, the role of our public sector partners – our NHS and local authority colleagues – has been nothing short of heroic. In a uniquely Welsh way, the public sector has worked together to protect the people of Wales.

This significant package of investment we are announcing today will help support our crucial public services during the toughest of times until this crisis is over.”

It follows a recent campaign, launched by the Welsh Government, to promote the important support available to businesses to help them deal with the continued pressures of coronavirus and plan for a brighter future.

Mobility businesses will benefit from a range of support such as assistance with developing the capabilities of staff to advice with recruitment and training programmes. This, it says, will help businesses move forward through the pandemic and thrive in the future.
