Altro, an international manufacturer of transport flooring, and Neomind, a customer experience design agency, have been awarded two prestigious honours at the 2026 MUSE Design Awards for their joint project, the Universal Bus.

The project achieved the Gold award in the Transportation, Rapid Bus category, and the Silver award in the Transportation, Mass Transit Systems category.

The Universal Bus was recognised for its ground-breaking approach to inclusive design, specifically addressing a critical gap in public transport: the sensory and cognitive barriers faced by passengers with “hidden” disabilities, including neurodivergent and neurodegenerative conditions.

By moving beyond traditional physical accessibility, the Altro and Neomind collaboration created a blueprint for a calmer, more predictable, and more dignified travel experience.

Chris Edwards-Thorne, Marketing Manager for Altro Global Transport, said: “Winning in two distinct transportation categories is a powerful validation of our belief that inclusive design in public spaces is essential.

“By combining Altro’s material expertise with Neomind’s experience-led design approach, we’ve been able to turn inclusive design theory into practical, real-world solutions that serve the entire community.”

The design process involved extensive consultation with disability charities and passenger focus groups. This evidence-based approach allowed the team to balance bold creative ideas such as sensory-calming material palettes and flexible seating, with the practical expectations of transport operators.

Kasia Foljanty, Director of Customer Experience at Neomind, said: “Inclusive design isn’t a single feature but a system.

“We looked at moments where travellers feel uncertainty or stress and used those as opportunities for improvement. Our goal was to empower people to travel confidently and independently, and these awards confirm that the industry is ready for this shift.”

The MUSE Design Awards is an international competition for designers whose craftsmanship shifts paradigms. This double-win highlights Altro and Neomind’s commitment to social responsibility and long-term investment in the future of mobility.

Nobi, the AI-enabled care lighting company, won the International TEC Award at the TSA ITEC Awards 2026.
