Unique Mobility hosts its second annual event highlighting the future of outdoor accessibility
Growing demand for outdoor accessibility and access to nature was highlighted at Unique Mobility’s second annual All-Terrain Mobility Come-and-Try Event, held at Parke National Trust in Devon recently.
Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2025 held at Castle Drogo National Trust, this year’s showcase attracted significantly increased interest from end users as well as healthcare professionals from across the South-West, all keen to explore the latest developments in all-terrain mobility equipment.
The event brought together a wide range of manufacturers including Sunrise Medical (Magic Mobility and Scoozy), Quantum Rehab, Dietz Mobility, TriRide, Trekinetic, Pride Mobility, Permobil, Invacare and Meyra, providing visitors with the opportunity to compare a broad selection of specialist mobility products in real-world outdoor conditions.
Rather than relying on showroom demonstrations or product specifications alone, attendees were able to experience equipment on grass, gravel, woodland paths and uneven terrain – one person even navigating steps – helping them better understand the differences between various solutions and identify equipment best suited to their individual needs.
For many visitors, the event reinforced the importance of trying a range of products before making a decision.
Hannah Philpott, Marketing Manager at Unique Mobility, commented: “We regularly meet people who have in mind what equipment they want. However, once they have the opportunity to compare different products side-by-side in a real context, they often discover features, capabilities and considerations they hadn’t previously thought about.
“The value of being able to experience equipment in the environments where it will actually be used shouldn’t be underestimated.”
The event also attracted occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals interested in understanding how advances in mobility technology can support greater access to outdoor spaces and the associated wellbeing benefits.
The importance of practical demonstrations was echoed by manufacturers attending the event. The Trekinetic team said: “We loved getting to demonstrate to everyone who signed up; it was a brilliant way of showing off our products, much more so than an exhibition hall floor, and I think it really helped people see how our products can be of genuine use in everyday life.”
TriRide added: “I am a firm believer that real-world testing and experience is the way forward for the end user to make the right decision when purchasing a product. With this type of open day they can most certainly do this.”
Quantum Rehab described the event as: “Extremely well organised and very well attended.”
Feedback from attendees was equally positive, with visitors highlighting the opportunity to trial equipment in a supportive environment and benefit from expert guidance from both manufacturer representatives and mobility specialists.
The event was supported by the National Trust, Dartmoor National Park representatives and members of the Dartmoor Wheeled Access Group who were sharing details of their accessible walks, demonstrating the growing collaboration between accessibility organisations, outdoor destinations and mobility specialists to improve access to the countryside.
Hannah added: “One of the most rewarding aspects of the day was seeing people gain confidence and discover new possibilities. For some, it was the first time they had experienced this type of equipment.
“For others, it was an opportunity to compare solutions and challenge assumptions about what might work best for them. Ultimately, it’s about helping people access places, experiences and activities that contribute to quality of life and wellbeing.”
Following the success of the event, Unique Mobility plans to continue developing opportunities for people across Devon and Cornwall to experience specialist mobility equipment in practical, real-world settings.
