Tri-Chair launches newly updated chairs that reduce the need for additional clinician assessments
Yorkshire specialist seating manufacturer Tri-Chair has launched two newly updated chairs that claim to cut the number of assessments needed down to just one.
The newly updated Tri-Chairs Two and Three models offer two interchangeable and highly customisable levels of support, enabling clinicians and distributors to identify the right seating solution for end users within a single visit.
In developing the chair, Tri-Chair, which is part of Channel Healthcare, sought to spare end users the pain and discomfort they experience while waiting for multiple assessments to find the right seating.
Tri-Chair Two and Three can adapt as a person’s condition progresses – or improves – enabling them to remain in a familiar chair and avoiding the distress and expense of trying to find appropriate new seating.
The result is a simpler approach for clinicians, reduced disruption for users and a more efficient pathway to achieving appropriate specialist seating.
At the heart of Tri-Chair’s flexibility is its adaptable chassis, which is shared across the Tri-Chair Two and Tri-Chair Three models. The design allows key elements, including seat width, depth and back height to be adjusted with simple push pins, and the Tri-Chair Two and Three back and head supports to be interchanged, enabling clinicians and distributors to tailor the chair more precisely without starting the assessment process again from scratch.
Tri-Chair states that one of the most significant developments within the range is the introduction of an articulating leg rest, an innovation created following feedback from clinicians who identified a clear limitation with traditional fixed leg rests.
When conventional leg rests are elevated, they can alter a user’s sitting position, creating increased pressure around the hips and reducing contact points across the thighs, which should distribute over 70% of someone’s weight. This can cause discomfort and make it more difficult for people to maintain a supportive and comfortable posture.
Developed over two years, Tri-Chair’s articulating leg rest allows the support to move more naturally with the user, helping maintain positioning while improving comfort when the legs are elevated.

“We wanted to create a chair that could adapt, giving clinicians more flexibility, reducing the need for repeated assessments and helping users get the right support sooner.
“The aim was simple: one seating solution that can continue working for the person as their needs evolve, and that’s what we’ve achieved with the new Tri-Chair Two and Three.”
Originally launched in 2022, Tri-Chair Two and Tri-Chair Three represent the manufacturer’s commitment to combining clinical insight with practical engineering. The company, which offers a range of specialist, highly adaptable seating solutions, has continued to work closely with occupational therapists throughout development, ensuring that every element of the design addresses real-world challenges faced by both clinicians and users.
The company has also brought Tri-Chair production from China to Britain, with manufacturing now taking place in the UK using British steel and upholstery. This move strengthens quality control, supports UK supply chains and enables closer collaboration between the manufacturer and healthcare professionals.
