Trekinetic wheelchair showcased in new BBC documentary exploring the future of mobility
Wheelchair manufacturer Trekinetic has been featured in a new BBC documentary In the Driving Seat, presented by filmmaker and wheelchair user Chris Lynch.
The programme, now available to stream on BBC iPlayer, explores the latest innovations in mobility technology from around the world — including Trekinetic’s all-terrain wheelchair.
In In the Driving Seat, Chris Lynch embarks on a journey from the Swiss Alps to the streets of London, test-driving some of the most advanced and imaginative mobility technologies on the planet.
From robotic exoskeletons to self-balancing powerchairs, the documentary highlights the designers and engineers who are redefining what mobility can mean in the modern world.
One of the standout moments in the film sees Chris testing the Trekinetic GTE, an off-road wheelchair engineered using Formula-1 technology.
Designed and hand-built in the UK, the GTE features a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque chassis and a unique three-wheel design that allows users to travel effortlessly across both urban and rough terrain.
Viewers are introduced to Charlotte, a Trekinetic user whose life has been transformed by the chair’s performance and versatility. Her story exemplifies the brand’s mission to combine cutting-edge design with genuine independence and freedom.
Mike Spindle, Founder and Managing Director of Trekinetic, commented: “We’re incredibly proud to see Trekinetic featured in this BBC documentary.
“Our goal has always been to engineer a wheelchair that goes beyond conventional limitations — something that performs beautifully off-road, looks stunning, and empowers people to go wherever life takes them.”
Trekinetic’s inclusion in In the Driving Seat places the brand among a global line-up of innovators driving the next generation of mobility technology. The documentary also shines a light on key questions around accessibility, sustainability, and inclusive design.
In the Driving Seat is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
