Essex Equipment Services team shot following CECOPS accreditation

An organisation providing vital specialist community equipment to people in Essex has received ‘top marks’ from the Community Equipment Code of Practice Service (CECOPS) after its service was scored highly by the independent certification and standards body.

Providing a wide selection of equipment to support home mobility and safety, Essex Equipment Service (EES) holds the contract to provide specialist aids to people with a range of health and social care needs in Essex.

Part of Essex Cares Limited (ECL), a care and wellbeing company set up by Essex County Council as a Local Authority Trading Company in 2009, the community equipment service provided over 130,000 items to Essex residents in 2018/19.

The CECOPS assessment of EES reviewed 22 standards, including stock management, manual handling and equipment, rating 19 of these as ‘requirements met’ – the highest score – as well as found no ‘non-conformities’.

Sue Harris, who conducted the assessment on behalf of CECOPS, said: “There were examples of good leadership, partnership working and teamwork at every level.”

Working with approximately 200 assistive technology services across the UK, CECOPS accreditation is highly sought after in the increasingly competitive community equipment sector, acting as a badge of credibility for assistive technology services.

Brian Donnelly, CEO of CECOPS, said: “Well done to the team at ECL on achieving CECOPS accreditation. The assessor was impressed with the service and the ‘can do’ attitude. Achieving accreditation first time without any non-conformities being identified doesn’t happen very often, and ECL managed to achieve this.

“It is also good to see that ECL is using the iCOPS self-assessment and continuous improvement tool, which again demonstrates their commitment to quality.”

With over 1,000 employees, ECL supports over 50,000 people each year to live independent and fulfilling lives, providing care and support in South East England for residents at home and in local communities.

Trudi Foster, Head of Essex Equipment Service, said: “We are delighted to have received accreditation by CECOPS. This is testament to the team’s dedication to providing an outstanding service to those requiring safety aids and mobility equipment within Essex, and we look forward to working with CECOPS in the future.”

Formally approved by regulators and professional bodies including the Care Quality Commission (England), Health and Safety Executive and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, CECOPS is the only standards body representing all assistive technology services.

Recently, the standards body announced it was launching its first assistive technology conference in June 2020 alongside the British Healthcare Trades Association, gathering a wide range of professionals in the assistive technology sector to help shape the future of services.
