Thieves make off with cash and cause extensive damage to Nottinghamshire mobility shop
Nottinghamshire Police are searching for two men suspected of being behind a string of burglaries on Newark’s high street early on Saturday morning, which saw Care Matters Mobility have money stolen and its retail property damaged.
As reported by the Newark Advertiser, the robberies of Care Matters Mobility, Newark Cycles and JD Opticians took place between 4.25am and 4.35am, with the burglars using a crowbar to force entry into the retail shop.
Claire Nicol, Owner of Care Matters Mobility, told the local newspaper that as well as having money stolen from its wheelchair deposit filing cabinet, the thieves also caused damage to the shop’s door during the raid.
“It’s such a hassle to have to deal with as they got in by wedging the door open with a crowbar and now I can’t find anyone in Newark free to come and fix it, which has been difficult because I still have to open the shop,” she told the Newark Advertiser.
“I’ve been cleaning up around the customers since Saturday.”
In addition, the intruders made off with designer sunglasses from JD Opticians and an empty till from the cycle shop.
The independent mobility retailer has been in business since 2000, providing a wide range including mobility scooters, wheelchairs, powerchairs, rise recliners, beds, walking aids, stairlifts and footwear to residents in Newark.
The police are urging anyone with information to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting the incident number 161 of June 29, 2019. Alternatively, individuals can anonymously contact Crimestopper on 0800 555 111
