TGA Mobility supports retired army captain’s festive fundraiser for The National Brain Appeal
Mobility equipment provider TGA Mobility has been helping to support a retired army captain to raise funds for The National Brain Appeal on the annual London Santa in the City run.
London’s Anthony Hamilton, 69, is a retired Grenadier Guards Captain who survived a major stroke and now uses his TGA Strongback wheelchair and WHILL powerchair to support good causes. His latest fundraiser for The National Brain Appeal was at the Santa in the City fun run in London.
Alongside thousands of other people dressed as Santa, Anthony and his support runners raised over £500 by completing this festive spectacle in the capital. And what’s more, Anthony and his wheelchair appeared on London TV News.
During his live interview Anthony said: “I’m here today to support the National Brain Appeal as surgeons at The National Hospital saved my life. They had to open up my skull and operate three times as I had a brain haemorrhage. They did such a wonderful job and if they hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here to enjoy this amazing event.”
The annual Santa in the City charity run started nine years ago and now attracts over 3,000 runners. Anthony took part and enjoyed every minute as he continued: “My TGA manual wheelchair enabled me to complete the five-mile run through the street of London, crossing Blackfriars and Millennium bridges.
“We easily weaved our way between the slower runners with my outstanding team of two pushers, pushing my Strongback up to 8 miles an hour, easily out pacing the London traffic! It was a brilliant experience for so many great causes.”
Anthony’s latest achievement is only one of many this year. Back in September he completed the Thames Pathway Walk as he recalls: “Previously my Strongback, with me in it, was lightweight enough for several guys on my team to lift me over numerous obstacles along the Thames pathway. I am so grateful for my amazing wheelchair and all of TGA’s support.”
Anthony is now training with his support runners for the 2025 London Marathon again in aid of The National Brain Appeal. You can donate to the National Brain Appeal via Anthony’s JustGiving page here
