Supersmith at Cabot CircusSupersmith, the pioneering team behind an innovative three-wheeled foldable mobiling scooter made a special appearance in Bristol last weekend.

Inspired by personal experiences, the founders of Supersmith – Tom Morgan, Emily Morgan and Fred Russell-Pavier – spent years developing an alternative to traditional mobility scooters.

Designed to address the key issues of instability, stigma, and practicality, the 3Scooter is a three-wheeled foldable mobility scooter which uses stabilisation technology to reduce the risk of tipping.

It is integrated with Supersmith’s patented ‘EverLevel’ technology that senses the scooter’s movements and actively adjusts the two back wheels to keep the rider level on uneven ground.3Scooter by Supersmith

According to Supersmith, it’s the first time active suspension has been applied to a three-wheeled electric scooter and it offers a safer alternative to traditional mobility scooters.

The lightweight 3Scooter is equipped with a seat that can adjust up to 90 per cent of the rider’s standing height. This is designed so that riders can communicate with others at eye level and have easier access to reach items while staying seated.

The special event at Bristol’s Cabot Circus invited visitors to witness the 3Scooter in action for the very first time, as well as meeting the founders, Tom, Emily, and Fred.

Sharing insights into their work, the founders discussed the future of accessible mobility, and its importance in connecting with the local community that has shaped every step of their innovation.

Fred Russell-Pavier, CTO and Co-Founder of Supersmith, commented: “In Supersmith’s early days, we explored many ideas, refining the best ones through development. Ideas are a bit like photographs; sometimes you need thousands of good ones to get a handful of excellent ones.3Scooter by Supersmith

“The initial stages of development became that editing process, of taking the best concepts generated by the team, refining and validating them. I hadn’t ridden a traditional mobility scooter for long until acting as a ‘stuntman’ in a demo video.

“Despite experience with motorbikes and road bikes, I felt surprisingly vulnerable at just 4mph. That’s when I saw the need for better safety and user experience.

“With Supersmith’s active stabilisation system, those anxieties vanish—riding becomes relaxed and enjoyable.”

Supersmith are based at Bristol Robotic Lab on the University of the West of England campus and have been supported by Scale up For Growth, Future Space and the Business Innovation Fund, West of England Combined Authority.

Primarily designed as a business to consumer product, Supersmith is building a waitlist for the 3Scooter which it hopes will be ready for delivery at the end of 2025. Supersmith is initially targeting UK markets before it expands to the US, Europe and the Far East.
