Sunrise Medical Quickie QS5 XMobility solutions manufacturer Sunrise Medical has introduced the Quickie QS5 X into the mobility market,  a “game-changing” lightweight folding wheelchair that folds smoothly and effortlessly.

The FreeFold design of the QS5 X sets a new standard for ease and efficiency, according to Sunrise Medical. Users can enjoy over 40 per cent energy savings with every fold.

Its optional, no-charge Fold-n-Lock feature keeps the chair securely folded with a simple click and there is no need for the user to hold it closed while lifting or storing. The folded chair stands solidly on the ground while folded, offering a benefit for transporting.

At a remarkably low weight of 7.4kg. for the Fixed-Front and 7.5kg for the Swing-Away frame, it is the lightest aluminum box frame wheelchair on the market, according to Sunrise Medical, making it easiest to lift, handle, and transport.

The combination of various proprietary manufacturing processes and technologies signature to Sunrise Medical – such as specially heat-treated 7000 series aluminum, ovalized tubes, and forged parts, to name a few – all result in creating unmatched strength, rigidity, and extra responsiveness for the QS5 X frames. This allows for a more efficient energy transfer from the rider to the wheels, enabling longer rides with less fatigue.

The QS5 X has rider feedback options available such as touch points on the caster link for gripping during transport, patented caster links that ensure the QS5 X always tracks straight, and stylish LED lights that are seamlessly integrated into the design.

Whether a beginner or an experienced wheelchair rider, the QS5 X offers adjustability with multiple frame angles, two frame versions (Swing-Away or Fixed- Front), and various clinically critical components.

The 3D Visualizer allows riders to configure their QS5 X on the website. This tool is invaluable during the evaluation process because it helps everyone on the team get a better understanding of exactly what a specific feature or option looks like. A new feature of the Visualizer is it provides an estimated weight and includes a photo in addition to saving the specifications in a PDF.

Bernd Krebs, Chief Technology Officer at Sunrise Medical, commented: “Transportation is crucial for wheelchair riders. Being able to easily load and unload their wheelchairs means maintaining or regaining their independence, and we strive to protect their strained shoulders. This is why we are constantly pushing the limits of technology to reduce any product weight wherever possible while increasing the rider’s energy efficiency.

“This allows the QS5 X to fold, unfold, and roll smoothly with the least energy required from the riders. We have applied the latest material science with the highly innovative FreeFold cross brace design to QS5 X, which makes it a game changer for anyone who values independence, performance, and ease of use.”

In recent news, Sunrise Medical announced that it had partnered with Dutch tech company Scoozy to launch the Sterling S800 by Scoozy – a next-generation outdoor mobility scooter.
