Mobility solutions provider Sunrise Medical will unveil its latest innovation: the first ever fully carbon-frame mobility scooter, at this year’s Naidex, the UK’s leading disability trade show taking place from 25-26 March at Birmingham’s NEC.

Released just three years after its flagship Q50R Carbon, one of the first-ever lightweight mobility products to feature a carbon frame, the Sterling S50 Carbon is designed for people looking to regain their independence.

Engineered to enhance users’ independence through its ultra-lightweight and durable design, at 13kg, it has a high strength-to-weight ratio. Its ultralight and durable frame makes it easy to lift and transport, making it ideal for everyday activities such as shopping trips, errands, or outings to the park.

The scooter offers comfort as well as convenience through its ability to reduce the impact of vibration, ensuring a smoother ride. Users can also benefit from a range of accessories, including a magnetic cup and phone holders, front or rear bags, battery bags for added convenience, and a matching carbon walking stick. IATA approved, the scooter is safe for air travel and offers an optional hard-shell airline case.

The S50 will be showcased on Sunrise Medical’s stand at Naidex from 25 to 26 March at the NEC in Birmingham. Visitors will be able to see live demonstrations and try lifting the scooter into a mock car boot to experience its portability first‑hand.

Ryan Windmill, product specialist at Sunrise Medical, said: “Three years ago, we changed the game with the launch of our Q50R Carbon powerchair and now the Sterling S50 marks another industry milestone as the first of its kind, fully carbon-frame mobility scooter.

“We’re excited to be showcasing it for the first time at Naidex. A lot of innovation has gone into its specialised design, utilising cutting-edge technology and material to support users’ mobility needs while remaining easy to operate and transport.

“Our priority was to keep the scooter’s weight down without compromising on quality and durability, so we’ve put the S50 Carbon through rigorous testing to ensure it can stand the test of time and follow its users in their daily adventures.”

The S50 Carbon will be available to purchase from 1 April 2026 and can be leased as part of the national Motability Scheme.

Earlier this year Sunrise Medical unveiled an upgraded powerchair switchbox, complete with voice activation.
