Sunrise Medical expands into neurorehabilitation with strategic acquisition of Made for Movement
Assistive mobility solutions provider Sunrise Medical has announced the acquisition of Made for Movement (MfM), a specialist in neurorehabilitation therapeutic devices designed to restore and enable movement for individuals with complex mobility needs.
Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Norway, Made for Movement is widely recognized for its clinically validated and innovative solutions that serve both children and adults with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, stroke and more.
Its flagship products — including the Innowalk, Innowalk Pro, and NF-Walker — support early and intensive therapy through motor-assisted standing and robotic gait training. These devices play a critical role in improving patient outcomes and enabling fuller participation in daily life. While traditionally focused on paediatrics, MfM’s recent expansion into adult care further strengthens the overlap with Sunrise Medical’s user base.
The acquisition significantly enhances Sunrise Medical’s paediatric therapeutic offering — which includes the Leckey and Firefly brands — by adding a highly differentiated product range and a clinically trained salesforce with deep expertise and strong institutional relationships.
It also enables Sunrise Medical to engage earlier in the user care journey — supporting better outcomes and strengthening connections across the healthcare ecosystem, including clinicians, hospitals, special schools, rehabilitation centres, and our valued distribution partners.
With established operations in Germany, Norway, Sweden, and the UK, Made for Movement’s geographic footprint aligns seamlessly with Sunrise Medical’s existing presence.
Its experienced team and specialised solutions enhance Sunrise Medical’s market position in paediatric therapeutic care and support broader entry into the adult segment. In turn, Sunrise Medical’s global infrastructure, resources, and distribution network will help accelerate Made for Movement’s international growth.
Birger Tufte Johansen, CEO of Made for Movement, and now part of the Sunrise Medical Group, commented: “There is strong strategic alignment between Sunrise Medical and Made for Movement.
“We share a common mission to improve lives through clinical excellence, innovative design, and deep user understanding. This partnership builds on our strengths and broadens our ability to empower individuals with complex needs to move to improve quality of life.”
Thomas Babacan, President and CEO of Sunrise Medical, added: “We are delighted to welcome Made for Movement to the Sunrise Medical family. Their unique and strongly positioned product portfolio, clinical focus, and presence in key European markets make them an ideal strategic fit.
“This acquisition extends our reach into the growing neurorehabilitation segment and allows us to address user needs more holistically. We also see exciting opportunities to accelerate Made for Movement’s growth globally by leveraging our international scale and commercial infrastructure.”
The acquisition of Made for Movement marks a further milestone in Sunrise Medical’s strategy to expand into high-impact adjacent segments and build a scalable platform for continued growth in neurorehabilitation and therapeutic care.
