Homelift specialist Stiltz Lifts helped to fit a life-changing lift into a tiny terrace in Swansea for BBC’s DIY SOS television programme which aired recently.

For 26 years and over 240 episodes, the BAFTA award-winning DIY SOS has delivered life-changing home and community transformations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In December 2024, Stiltz was involved in a week of intense building and installation at a small terraced home in Swansea; working alongside the stars of the show, presenter Nick Knowles, designer Gabrielle Blackman, electrician Billy Byrne, plasterer Chris Frediani, plus new additions to the team, gardener Ashley Edwards and woodworker Radha Siyver.

The 60-minute TV show, produced by South Shore Productions, features the bittersweet story of Dan and Anna, whose newly-purchased home required significant adaptations when the unthinkable happened and Dan suffered a life-changing spinal injury the previous New Year.

After nearly a year in hospital, and now a wheelchair user, Dan desperately needed his terraced house to become a place where he could focus on his rehabilitation and his goal of walking again. Despite the team’s tireless efforts, the house stubbornly fought back at every turn, pushing everyone to the limit.

Gino Farruggio, Sales Director at Stiltz Lifts, said that it was a privilege for Stiltz Lifts to play a part in such a meaningful project. He commented: “Seeing how our team’s work helped someone regain independence in their own home after such a life-changing accident was incredibly powerful.

“It’s moments like these that remind me how important every single person on our team is. Together, we’re not just installing lifts, we’re genuinely changing lives for the better.”

Nick Knowles, DIY SOS Presenter says of the series: “I’m so excited to have DIY SOS back on our screens – I think it will remind people how many good, generous people there are across the country willing to help out others in their time of need.

“We also share much more of what it takes physically and emotionally to fulfil the promises we make to families and communities with our huge builds. Still emotional and fun as it always has been, there’s faces old and new on the team and the usual cast of thousands.”

Earlier this year research commissioned by Stiltz revealed that while the majority of older adults in the UK want to stay in their homes as they age, many feel that the support they need to do so is lacking.
