Handicare New PhotoSurvey 4D stairlift measuring tool

Handicare has revealed the latest version of its stairlift measurement tool, PhotoSurvey 4D (PS4D), boasting a number of new and improved features aimed at reducing the time dealers spend measuring stairlift installations.

Announced at Handicare’s Dealer Day this May, the new survey tool was one of the company’s key new product launches, in addition to unveiling its new straight 1100 stairlift with powered options to the UK market.

The photographic electronic survey system enables stairlift installers to measure end-users’ staircases accurately by placing markers on and around the stairs which are photographed, with specialist software measuring the images to create a 3D model of the staircase and the stairlift track.

Aiming to improve on Handicare’s PhotoSurvey3D system, Jesper Beers, Product Manager for Handicare, says the new dimension of the PS4D tool is ‘time’, with a raft of improvements made to make the tool quicker to use, freeing up dealers’ time to spend with their customers.

One of the key improvements made in the new survey tool relates to the markers used in the new PS4D system, with a reduced variation of cards needed by installers to accurately measure a staircase.

“The reduction in measurement time is realised by both the markers, with no more dedicated wall, obstacle, doors and bulkhead markers,” he noted.

According to the company, dealers can now measure an average staircase within 10minutes, with that time including the time required to place the markers on the stairs and put them back into the suitcase.

“With the marker set in PS4D, you can do about 40 steps continuously and that includes the top and bottom landing, which means you do not have to cut up your measurement into multiple parts anymore,” added Jesper.

As well as a rationalised marker set, Jesper emphasised another key improvement of the system is its ability to visually detect markers placed on the stairs, making PS4D more user-friendly and dramatically reducing the time spent photographing and re-photographing the cards.

A camera now attached to a tablet device allows the PS4D system to provide dealers with visible feedback during a measurement, showing immediately if the system has recognised a marker whilst surveying the staircase.

“You don’t need to go back and forth to your computer, uploading pictures, seeing if you get any arrows,” said Jesper.

“If you are downstairs and everything is green, you are good to go.”

Now covering Handicare’s complete stairlift portfolio, the new system comes available in a slim case, with the PS4D tool weighing 3.5kg – compared to the PS3D v6’s 8.5kg – and has kept the established PS3D user interface to make switching over easy to the new version.

Additionally, the new system includes an innovative pointer that is capable of registering walls and obstacles quicker than the previous system.

“It is sort of an evolution versus a revolution,” stated Jepser.

“We went from good to great.”
