Stairlift supplier to stage a nostalgic Singalong show in celebration of 75th VE Day Anniversary
Acorn Stairlifts has produced a special 1940s-themed singalong concert for a neighbouring 70-bed nursing home to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day and is inviting care homes across the country to join in for free online.
The West Yorkshire stairlift manufacturer has produced the hour-long VE Day Singalong show as a tribute and thank you to the wartime generation – many of whom are now unable to leave their residences because of the coronavirus.
Nick Wilson, Operations Director of Acorn, explained: “As an installer of stairlifts for many years, I was extremely privileged to speak with our customers and hear some incredible stories about the Second World War. We owe so much to this generation and their story must not be forgotten.”
Acorn commissioned professional 1940s vocalist Miss Beth Bell to perform the virtual concert for the residents of Steeton Court Nursing Home, singing 15 songs while dressed in period costume.
The setlist includes such memorable hits as ‘Sing As We Go’, ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’, ‘White Cliffs of Dover’, ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’ and the Vera Lynn classic ‘We’ll Meet Again’.
Several of the songs have been specially requested by Steeton Court residents and dedicated to them. The show will also feature touching personal messages from the families of residents who have been unable to visit their loved ones in person for several weeks.
Acorn has also supplied bunting, flags and other items for the nursing home’s own VE Day Anniversary celebrations, of which the nostalgic singalong will be a highlight.
The virtual show was produced for its ‘next-door neighbours’ at the nursing home, however, the online show has now been opened up to a much wider audience with anyone able to take part.
It will be available free for anyone with internet access, including other nursing and care homes across the UK and people in lockdown in their own homes, with those wishing to take part told to visit www.acornstairlifts.co.uk/blog anytime from 8 am onwards on the 8th May.
In the website, visitors will find a link to the show and a password enabling people to view it.
“It won’t be ‘broadcast’ at a specific time; instead you can watch it whenever suits you, perhaps to fit in with your own VE Day Anniversary celebrations. You don’t have to register, sign up or download anything – just log on, sit back and sing along,” stated the company.
Nick added: “We want as many people as possible to enjoy this one-off musical celebration and tribute to those whose combined efforts brought about Victory in Europe on May 8th, 1945.”https://thiis.co.uk/stairlift-supplier-to-stage-a-nostalgic-singalong-show-in-celebration-of-75th-ve-day-anniversary/https://i1.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Acon-Stairlift-VE-Day-singalong.jpg?fit=900%2C630&ssl=1https://i1.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Acon-Stairlift-VE-Day-singalong.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1NewsroomSupplier NewsTrade NewsAcorn,Acorn Stairlifts,Anniversary, coronavirus,Second World War,singalong concert,Steeton Court Nursing Home,VE Day,Vera Lynn,West YorkshireAcorn Stairlifts has produced a special 1940s-themed singalong concert for a neighbouring 70-bed nursing home to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day and is inviting care homes across the country to join in for free online. The West Yorkshire stairlift manufacturer has produced the hour-long VE Day Singalong show...Calvin BarnettCalvin Barnettcalvin@thiis.co.ukAdministratorTHIIS Magazine
