Smirthwaite introduces new range of bespoke plus solutions for children with limited mobility
Specialist equipment manufacturer Smirthwaite has introduced a new range of bespoke solutions for plus-sized children and young adults with additional needs.
Recognising the increasing need for bespoke plus solutions, the Plus Range was developed alongside input from clinical professionals. Smirthwaite states that its Plus Range provides numerous clinical benefits while promoting social inclusion and independence.
From plus sized postural support chairs to heavy duty changing benches with larger weight and height requirements, the Plus Range offers a selection of solutions to meet the unique needs of plus sized individuals in both school and home environments.
According to Smirthwaite, individuals with larger body sizes (in height and/or weight) require specialised care and suitable equipment, posing challenges for occupational therapists, care facilities and providers. Limited resources affect timely care delivery, schooling and care home admissions, and hospital discharges.
Each chair should be tailored to the individual user, providing proper posture support and ensuring even weight distribution on the support surface for comfort and independence. Seating should be based on the individual’s body shape and size determined during assessment to prevent potential harm.
Correct chair setup influences positioning, affecting the risk of secondary issues like postural deterioration and pressure injuries and Smirthwaite state that its specialist seating helps individuals achieve optimal sitting posture comfortably.
Levitex pressure care relief technology is also applied to Smirthwaite’s seating and changing bench products. Levitex foam is an innovation in PU foam, combining the comfort of latex with PU foam characteristics, and helps correct an individual’s posture. The gravity-defying foam technology helps with body pressure distribution and keeps soft while offering great support.
The Plus Range features additional sizes and fabric options and an option of backs.
Claire Litton, Managing Director added: “We’re extremely excited to launch this new Plus Range. Our versatile and cost-effective equipment is designed to be used in schools, hospitals and a range of other professional healthcare settings as well as home; each product is durable and built to withstand frequent use.
“To provide customers with extra peace of mind, Smirthwaite’s team of technical experts work with occupational therapists to advise on the most suitable plus sized equipment; they also provide regular maintenance checks to ensure all equipment conforms to the latest health and safety standards.”
As part of the Prism Healthcare family, a designer and manufacturer of affordable, clinically-effective healthcare products, all Smirthwaite equipment is manufactured in its UK facility.
