Select Medical reaches the finals of prestigious NHS Supply Award for second successive year
Pressure area care product manufacturer Select Medical has been shortlisted for the NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards for the second year in a row.
The supplier of specialised mattresses, active mattresses, profiling beds and manual handling products received a Highly Commended in the Mental Health & Community Sector Category and says it hopes to walk away with the top prize this year.
Recognising the work of businesses, third sector bodies and the NHS in working together to provide enhanced patient care, the North Excellence in Supply Awards ceremony will be held in October at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
Select Medical’s work with Mental Health Trust Units across Lancashire was praised in 2018, leading to the company undertaking a similar collaborative working with Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Trust.
The company says the work thus far with GMMH has resulted in standardisation across mental health units, with Select Medical manufacturing and installing numerous bespoke sized mattresses that provide effective pressure relief & safety for the users.
The Lancashire-based manufacturer also provides aftersales support that monitors the condition of the mattresses; maintains constant contact with GMMH staff to offer support if required; and delivers education, training and support to all the Trust’s staff and stakeholders.
Additionally, Select Medical manages the collection and disposal of old or user damaged mattresses, recycling materials where possible before disposing of responsibly, in accordance with W.E.E.E regulations.
Aiming to develop the processes of procurement, delivery and disposal of support surfaces, Select Medical emphasises its C3 philosophy is at the heart of the collaboration, embracing and understanding the needs of the care provider, carer and cared for.
Hoping the positive outcomes achieved through the collaboration will be enough to clinch this year’s Award, a statement from Select Medical commented: “Of course, we’d love to win the award outright this year. Either way, we’re extremely proud to have been shortlisted again. This in itself is recognition of the great work we are doing and the passion we have for the work we do.”
